As of 2006, the last year for which data is present, there were two hundred thirty-six drug and alcohol treatment centers in the state of Kansas. This includes 116 private, not-for-profit and eighty five private, for-profit treatment centers. This means that the citizens of Kansas have options when they are seeking help for drug and alcohol problems. Those that are looking for drug treatment in Kansas should know, however, that treatment methods and services offered can vary from center to center. The majority of Kansas drug and alcohol rehabs provide treatment as an outpatient procedure, and that may not be enough for the person suffering from a very severe addiction. For them, there are 37 residential treatment facilities in the state of Kansas, which aim to eliminate addiction through close medical supervision.

If you are a person with an opiate addiction in Kansas, your choices for treatment are unfortunately limited. Programs that are able to provide buprenorphine or methadone are much less common than those who use other treatment approaches. There are only five centers statewide that offer opiate addiction treatment programs, with only 8 programs and 27 doctors that are licensed in the distribution of these medicines. That means that some people may have to go much greater distances to get the treatment they need.

As in other states, most drug and alcohol rehab programs in Kansas provide a mix of counseling services and detoxification. People entering a rehab should be sure that the program they choose offers detox, behavioral therapy, and support that will continue long after the program has been completed. An ongoing support system is a great way to minimize the chance of relapse. If you know someone that is addicted to drugs, or if you are addicted, you should not let shame or fear keep you from seeking much-needed treatment. Drug addiction is a disease, not a character flaw or a sign of weakness. The sooner an addiction is caught and treated, the more likely it is that it can be beaten for good.
