Kentucky, the Bluegrass State, is a state that by and large believes in the low risk of using certain drugs. As the DEA reports, the misuse of prescription medications such as Lortab, Oxycontin, Xanax and Valium is one of the biggest drug problems in Kentucky. Drug and alcohol treatment centers in Kentucky include 185 privately run nonprofit facilities, and 115 that are private and run for profit. Private and unavailable aren’t the same thing- almost half of Kentucky’s drug and alcohol rehabs receive some public funding and one hundred twenty-nine of the state’s centers work with hospitals and doctor’s offices.
