Question by : Can the uninsured and unemployed go to alcohol rehab too?
Ok, I am 20 years old now and I am no longer in denial of being an alcoholic. I realize it now. My life is so messed up and I want to change before things get even worse. The only problem is that now I am jobless again due to my alcoholism and I am close to broke. Do rehabs accept people with no insurance or a job even? Thank you…..

Question by WTH (idea: Can a hospital refuse someone who has had a possible stroke because their AHCCS coverage ran out?
My ex wife had what to me was an obvious stroke. Her right arm was like jello she couldn’t walk and complained her chest hurt. When her sister took her to a local hospital(TMC in Tucson AZ) They refused to admit her because her AHCCCS card had expired . Can they really do that? If so what are her options?

Answer by Brian
While the stroke may be obvious to you if the ER physician gave her a full work up and found nothing wrong there really is no reason to admit her unless they’re gonna obs her for the night to cover their butt. A lot of times bells palsy or a TIA can go home that day with instructions to follow up with your personal physician for further testing or to come back in if things get worse. I highly doubt they refused to admit her cause her AHCCCS card expired. The reason why I’m so sure is 99/100 times an ER physician won’t even know your insurance until they go to admit you the reason why is cause it doesn’t matter what insurance a person has till that time. The only reason why it even matters at all is so you can admit the patient to the right hospitalist as certain hospitalist groups are contracted with certain insurance companies.

Question by jpc8015: Seceding from the States?
Did anybody hear about the Lakota Indian Tribe wanting to disolve their treaties with the federal government and set up their own country? Is this a good idea for them? How would they manage without federal aid for everything from “cultural centers” to drug and alcohol rehabilitation? At some point would we need to go and forcibly take their land back from them in order to save them from themselves? What would the consequences be, could we then take away their status as a soveirgn nation and not give them treaties?

Well, considering the living conditions on reservations, I don’t see how they were be losing much if they declared their own country.

Wow, this is a bad situation. I went to inpatient treatment for alcohol a couple of years ago myself…and I am a completely different person now, thanks to treatment/the desire to heal/God’s grace. I wish I had some answers for you as far as facilities go, but I reside and was treated here in Virginia. if there is a Community Services Board in your area, that needs to be his first stop. They assess the person to establish “need for treatment” to form a diagnosis axis, and are the ones who make referrals to treatment facilities. They are publically funded, and should be able to cover his costs if he is categorized by the intake counselor as “indigent”. Get out the phonebook, make some calls…he can’t do it for himself right now…GOOD LUCK..to you, and him..
