Question by Paris: Can someone explain the inpatient rehab “level” system?
My boyfriend is in an inpatient rehab facility because of his drug use and threatened suicide. His mom told me he’s a “level 2” and I can’t communicate with him at all until hes a “level 3.” Can someone please explain what this means and what he has to do to be a “level 3” so I can talk to him again? I really miss him 🙁

It is a fairly common practice in institutional care to create a level system, although each facility puts its own spin on how it works for that unit. Generally, patients come in at a low level, like a 0 or a 1, and can increase levels depending on several factors. Generally, behavior is an important part of moving up levels, so the patient that attends treatment, stays safe and generally stays out of trouble earns points toward moving up. The other factor is often time. For example, a unit may require you to behave as they want for 24 hours before moving to the next level. Each higher level generally comes with more privileges, so by moving up levels the patient may earn phone calls, unsupervised time, time on the video game, etc. Finally, it is generally practiced in drug treatments in particular that time away from the environment the patient came from is a good idea, so they generally start the lower levels without family or friend contact and then allow it with good behavior and time.

The thing I would want to say to you is that this is probably a good thing, and that although I know it is hard on you, I also know you care about him, and so following the units rules is a good thing all around. Find some way to meet your emotional needs while he is out of contact, such as spending time with your family or friends, take walks, read books, knit, etc. The time will pass quickly enough, and hopefully you will get a boyfriend back who is sober and safe and working on his life in a positive way.

Question by jenniebells: How have students with severe disabilities been impacted by No Child Left Behind?

Best answer:

Answer by LDTeacher
I have been a special educator for 30 ears EVERYTHING has impacted these kids!!
The tests that they are required to take have been changed, and the graduation requirements are very different. Hopefully, the tests reflect he needs and and basics that these kids need as adults. but the problem is that the LD or mildly MR kids are the ones who don’t get enough changes in their educational program.
They are expected to do everything that a “normal” kid is supposed to do w/o appropriate adaptions….the whole thing is un fair…there will always be kids who have special needs and just how can we help them??

Question by WTH (idea: Can a hospital refuse someone who has had a possible stroke because their AHCCS coverage ran out?
My ex wife had what to me was an obvious stroke. Her right arm was like jello she couldn’t walk and complained her chest hurt. When her sister took her to a local hospital(TMC in Tucson AZ) They refused to admit her because her AHCCCS card had expired . Can they really do that? If so what are her options?

Best answer:

Answer by Brian
While the stroke may be obvious to you if the ER physician gave her a full work up and found nothing wrong there really is no reason to admit her unless they’re gonna obs her for the night to cover their butt. A lot of times bells palsy or a TIA can go home that day with instructions to follow up with your personal physician for further testing or to come back in if things get worse. I highly doubt they refused to admit her cause her AHCCCS card expired. The reason why I’m so sure is 99/100 times an ER physician won’t even know your insurance until they go to admit you the reason why is cause it doesn’t matter what insurance a person has till that time. The only reason why it even matters at all is so you can admit the patient to the right hospitalist as certain hospitalist groups are contracted with certain insurance companies.

Question by julygirl75038: Which person is dead? (For radio trivia)?
1. Betty Ford (Wife of former US president Gerald Ford, founded “The Betty Ford Center” for the treatment of alcoholism)

2. Joe Garagiola (Former catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, “Today Show” host, TV game show host, commentator)

3. Rex Reed (Film critic)

4. Bob Dole (Longtime US senator from Kansas, presidential candidate in 1996)
I tried Rex Reed for the radio trivia…..it was the incorrect answer…he’s still alive. Joe G was the answer for the radio trivia……even though he is still alive.
I checked the site www.deadoralive.com and it says that all of them are alive….so I guess this was an invalid question on the radio stations.

Question by Amanda: What can Percocet abuse do to your baby during pregnancy?
A girl I know is due in August and has been abusing the pills before she found out and ever since she found out. She has been taking 5-8 a day. The doctor supposedly tells her everything looks/sounds good but I’m doubtful. Could something be wrong with her baby when it’s born? Thanks for any answers. She also has not told her doctor about her substance abuse.
Could the doctor be able to tell anything is wrong through listening to the heart beat? Or any ultrasounds? It’s not fair to make your baby suffer while you get high.
