Question by Victoria: Question about self harm recovery?
I’ve been a self harmer for 2 and a half years. I don’t plan to stop anytime soon but if I do, I have a few questions about it. –
If I got the urge to cut while trying to stop, what could I do?
I heard it was impossible to completely stop cutting.. Is that true?
Is it really hard to go through with the “recovery” like everyone says it is?
That’s only a few of all the questions I have but if I get some good answers, I might consider stopping. It’s ruining my life honestly. If it matters, I’m 14.
Sorry if this isn’t in the proper category!

Hi,
I have self harmed for three and a half years and have recently stopped for a year and a half and I am free of urges now.
1.) It honestly depends on what kind of person you are. I talk on the phone to someone supportive. Some other ideas are drawing, writing, going running (a good kind of pain)…
2.) No that’s not true I haven’t for over a year and a half and I know people who have for longer.
3.) No you just need the right support system for me it was therapy and supportive people to talk to. (I don’t talk about the urge to cut just the problem I’m having and they work through it with me.)
I hope you stop cutting, good luck!

Question by Andrew Ostrowski: What do you do if your insurance only gives 20 visits per year and you need more..?
I was getting addiction treatments last winter for an oxy habit, unfortunately the rehab, therapy, and all the psych visits for my suboxone treatment used up all of my available visits for “mental health or substance abuse” per year. I have been having alot of symptoms of depression lately..”crying spells, intense need to be held, severe fatigue, horrid sleep patterns, etc..” and don’t have any more visits available. I don’t have a job as i just graduated last year and am too weak to work more than an hour or so per day anyway. I have caresource which i think is medicaid based. Is there anyway i can get them to allow me to see a psychiatrist or are there any other ways to get help with this kinda thing?

Hey Andrew. First here’s a site that you may be able to relate too. www.subsux.com The feelings you are having are common coming off of Sub, and thee are people at that site that understand and can support you.
As far as counseling, there is usually therapy available free or low cost in every city. If you have a college near you check with them. Really time is what you need, and exercise to jump start your brain into producing endorphins again. That’s one of the big problems with long lasting opioids like Sub and methadone. They screw your brain up but good. The good news is you will recover, it juts takes time. It took me over a year to feel good again after a 2 year stint on Suboxone.
Good luck.

Question by Jessica MMM: my son VOLUNTARILY admitted himself into rehab 3 years ago, does this exclude him from posessing a foid card?
he was 16 at the time, it was not court ordered and the firearms owner act is poorly worded they do not define “mental health facility” as a rehabilitation center and on the application says it’s a felony to falsely admit info. so what im wondering is since he was self mandated, received no physiciatric care while staying, and also was never banned by a professional that he is not able to obtain a FOID card. so does this mean he’s still eligible because he loves hunting and is looking toward getting a rifle.

i don’t think it makes any difference whether it was voluntary or not. he still went to rehab
if i were you, i would check with someone. there should be a contact number or something like that on the foid application form, or online if you google it. ring them and ask if that counts as a mental health facility
